Helene worked with me on transforming my newly acquired property from a slightly tatty old fashioned space to a beautiful home.

Her use of colour is second to none. She is excellent at working out a colour pallette and then picking contrasting elements to work with it. She helped me source high quality but affordable furniture that is modern yet classic, all from places that I hadn’t heard of but now recommend to others. Helene then transformed my bathroom from looking tired and plain to eye catching with a few simple interventions which people have complimented.

The best thing about Helene is how supportive she was in helping me transform the property which felt so daunting without help: she gave me confidence along the way, was full of ideas and hugely practical. I contacted Helene to design my large Victorian flat. The brief was a new floor and bookshelves in the living room, two new bathrooms and a utility room.

I appreciated Helene explaining the steps in her process very clearly at the outset, and sticking to them: the process made complete sense. Another designer I had originally been working with wanted to begin by choosing curtains etc. Instinctively I felt that wasn’t right, and when we switched to Helene, how right that instinct proved! Instead Helene guided us through first, asking carefully what we wanted, and coming up with a design brief which really showed she had listened. Then thinking through the use each space would be put to, which led to a furniture plan. The thing that she helped us with most was the technical side - getting the very complicated electrical wiring plan right, and specifying the many aspects of the bathrooms. Pretty things like curtain colours came right at the end and how right she was - all the rest was a really necessary foundation. I also very much appreciated some of the suggestions she made for suppliers for us to consider, and she has always been remarkably prompt, and very courteous, with our many queries.

We really appreciated how all this care and attention paid off when we moved in recently - we are just thrilled with our renovated house - a 16 month project. Other people refer to Helene’s great work with colour, I thought that wouldn’t apply to us as we just wanted white and neutrals - with one startling exception! Her advice was perfect, the colours are subtly and exactly right. So this turns out to matter with neutrals as well! Similarly it wasn’t until we started switching lights on, we realised how fortunate we were in working with her on lighting - the very complex diagrams, and painstaking attention to which types of bulbs etc, transformed into really flexible and beautiful ways to light each room. I had read about ‘layering’ of lighting in some interior design magazines and webistes, but had no idead that was what was being created for us!
